He is survived by: his children, Robyn Thompson (Kent) of East Sparta, Jennifer Carter of Cygnet and James Carter, Jr. (Carla) of Bloomdale; his sister Dorothy Ziegler of Kenton; and his grandchildren, Amanda Carter, Cade Carter, Lucy Jo Thompson, Caroline Thompson, Erin Thompson (Andrew), Emily Thompson (Charlie) and Nathaniel Thompson.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Baltimore and/or Bridge Home Health and Hospice.
