He was predeceased by: his parents, Clayton Kouns and Iona Kouns (Broom); his grandson Trevor Cox; and his siblings, Lawrence, Charles, Boyd, James R., Lewis Kouns, Belva Kiser, Wilma Workman and Pam Daniels.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Lee McBrayer; his children, Tammy (Greg Cox), Brian (Barb Kouns) and Brett Kouns (Tanya Estep); his grandchildren, Brittany (Bryan Erdman), Jarrod Cox (Breana Geiser), Michael Kouns, Joe Kouns, Stephanie Kouns and Jacob Kouns; his great grandchildren, Alivia, Makayla and Kamira; and his siblings-in-law, Grover Daniels and Billie Kouns.
