He was predeceased by: his parents, William Newell and Ethel Newell (Streeter); his son Larry Newell; and his siblings, Dorothy "Dot" Valentine, Butch, Larry Newell, Harriett Guilliams, Karen Newell and Mary Lou Barnett.
He is survived by: his children, John Newell (Wendy), Joseph "Joe" Newell (Tammy), Kristina "Krissy" Newell and Karen Newell; and his grandchildren, Mary Hook, Johhny Jr., Justin Newell, Shanna, Nikki Newell, Lilliana, Gago Cruz, Andre Deeds, Ashton, Essence, Chandler Gambill, Bryce, Jaycee Wiggins and Gauge Perdue. He is also survived by several great grandchildren.
