He was predeceased by: his parents, Richmond Wilkes and Edith Wilkes (Mays); his wife Dorothy Hefner; his daughter Barbara; and his sister Marian Louise Wilkes.

He is survived by: his children, Richard Wilkes (Sue), James Wilkes (Donna) and Dona Phillips (Larry); and his sister Christine Montgomery. He is also survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
