He was predeceased by: his son Dean Shalter; his siblings, Willis Shalter, Maxine Buckley and Marvel Houseworth; and his sister-in-law Velma Shalter.
He is survived by: his spouse Dorothy Ann Best; his children, Rex Shalter (Barbara) of Ottawa, John Shalter of Ottawa, Bruce Shalter of Columbus, Ted Shalter (Judy) of Glandorf, Jayne Romes (Ronald) of Monclova and Carol Brandau of Radford, VA; his daughter-in-law Lori Shalter of Houston, TX; his sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret "Putz" Schroeder of Glandorf and Jean Best of Delphos; his grandchildren, Erica Verhoff (Tom), Elyse Brandau, Ian Brandau, Andy Romes (Katie), Hanna Romes, Lizette Shalter, Hans Shalter (Toni), Madalyn Shalter, Austin Shalter, Lydia Shalter and Grant Shalter (Amanda); and his great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Taylor, Evan Verhoff, Evelyn Romes, Harrison Romes, Easton, Harlow, Finn Shalter, Addison Shalter, Gabriella Bogart and Braxton Bogart.
