Dale King Obituary

Glenn Dale King, "Dale" to everyone who knew him, was unexpectedly called to perform maintenance on the hinges of the pearly gates of Heaven on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 while vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee with his wife and closest friends.

Dale was born July 8, 1947 in Zanesville to Glenn William and Reva June (Sturgis) King and was "very tiny and rather homely to all" except his mother, by her own account. But he quickly grew into a handsome older brother quite content to antagonize his sisters.

After graduating from Three Rivers High School in 1965, he briefly attended Ohio University in Zanesville before serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War (1967-69). He worked at General Electric in Coshocton for 30+ years, until his retirement in 2000. He spent the last 50 years married to the love of his life, Lois (Mowery). They eloped on February 12, 1972 and were married in Zanesville, Ohio.

His main goals in life were keeping things running and not wasting anything. He had an innate knack for reverse engineering almost anything. Even if it wasn't broken, he could still fix it. His favorite shirt in later life bore the motto: "If Papaw can't fix it, nobody can.".

After Lois vetoed his energy saving idea for an earth home, he went about designing and building the next best thing, and together they made a home in Conesville where she survives him. He is also survived by three children, Amanda (Tommy) Lovingood of Knoxville, TN, Benjamin (Kelly) King of Orrville, and Casey (Ashley) King of Granville; six grandchildren, Abigail, Grace, June, Corwin, Liliana, Leonidas; his father, Glenn W. King of Conesville; two sisters, Linda (Henry) Cerceo of Charleston, SC, and Vickie (Tom) Kobel of Coshocton; a brother-in-law, Walter (Lisa) Mowery of Coshocton; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Hennen of Coshocton, and Carol Bookless of Coshocton; several nieces and nephews, and a gang of friends who were as close as any family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, June King, and parents-in-law, Robert J. and June Mowery.

After his family, much of his time, love, and energy were given in service of the Conesville United Methodist Church where he has been a member since 1959. He has served as a chairman of the trustees and has been a prime force for renovations, maintenance, and in general making sure the lights stay on. No one is quite sure what we will do without him.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022 at the Conesville United Methodist Church (196 State St. Conesville, OH 43811), with Pastors Carl Schaefer, and David & Suzanne Hill officiating. A fellowship meal will follow at the church. Private burial will take place, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. Calling hours are Monday, 4-7 p.m. at the church, and also one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. The Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Conesville U.M.C.
