He was predeceased by: his sons, Bryan Kelly Smith and Kyle Kovaleski. He is survived by: his wife Susie Smith (Short); his stepson Kurt; his daughter Tanya Semel (Aaron); his grandchildren, Kathryn, Sophia, Colin, Baron, Julian, Ani, Mia, Kailee, Ella, Mason, Sydney, Nathan, Jonathan, Skyler and Scarlett; and his family, Paula King, Bill and Marie Safreed.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home (1177 W 5th Ave, Columbus, OH 43212). A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
