He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie G. Thorpe and Carolyn Thorpe; his brother Phil Thorpe; and his nephews, Reginald Thorpe, Kenneth Thorpe, William G. Thorpe IV, Solomon Wheat and Dion Lamar.

He is survived by: his daughters, Samantha Pennington and Keesha Black (Jerry); his siblings, Rosa Thorpe, Sheila Obeng (Ben), William Thorpe, Cortez Thorpe, Alonzo Thorpe (Felicia Woodfolk) and Douglas Thorpe (Thea); and his grandchildren, Kimani, Kerry and Isabella Black. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
