Giancarlo Del Vita Obituary
Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services by Schoedinger-NorthIt is with deep sadness that we announce Giancarlo Del Vita passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 18, 2024. He was 61 years young. Giancarlo is survived by his daughters Claire and Audrey Del Vita, his mother Maria Barabino, his partner Ausilia Salerno, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a plethora of additional extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Vincenzo and his brother Stephano Del Vita.
Giancarlo was born in Rome, Italy, but spent most of his childhood in Lucca. He always had an adventurous spirit and never shied away from taking risks. Following his graduation from the Istituto d'Arte, he spent one year in the Italian military as a paratrooper. His time with the "paracadutisti" was passed jumping out of planes and igniting explosives, stories he often shared with his daughters.
In 1985, he received a Bachelor of Art in Industrial Design from the Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche in Firenze/Florence. In the years following, he crossed the Atlantic to work in New York and Boston, before returning to Italy to live and work on a horse farm near Lucca and assist with his mother's designer clothing agency.
Later, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the Boston Architectural College, where he would teach part-time whilst working as an architect in Boston. After his graduation, he met his former wife Gemma Park with whom he had his daughters.
Giancarlo moved to Columbus for a work opportunity and spent 15 years with BHDP Architecture as design leader for the higher education market. With BHDP, he designed buildings for institutions including Miami University, University of Cincinnati, Duquesne University, Lycoming College, and his eldest daughter's alma mater, Ohio University. He also designed various museums and offices, like the Wonders Of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and Wendy's headquarters remodel.
Giancarlo saw beauty in life and the world around him, which translated into all of the work he created. His ability to create beauty reflected his innate joy and zest for life. Outside of work, Giancarlo loved motorcycles and bourbon (especially Maker's Mark), and had a profound appreciation of art; from the works of Isamu Noguchi to Giorgio Morandi. He was always eager to explore and discover new inspirations in the world around him. Above all else, Giancarlo was a devoted and loving father and dedicated his life to caring for his daughters Claire and Audrey. To him, they were "le regazze," his girls.
Giancarlo lived each day fully, knowing that any moment could be his last—a philosophy that guided him through both joyous occasions and trying times. Although his time was cut short, his spirit will live on through his family, friends, and creations.
His family will receive friends on Friday, July 26th from 3:00 - 4:00 PM at Advantage by Schoedinger North at 5554 Karl Road in Columbus, where his. Funeral Service will follow at 4:00PM that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Giancarlo's name, https://www.gentlemansride.com.
