He was predeceased by: his parents, Amos A. Fuerst and Teresa A. Fuerst (Birkemeier); his granddaughter Amber Heyneman; his siblings, Wilfred, Virgil, Dorothy Diehl (Stephen) and Martha Davis (Samuel); and his sister-in-law Joyce Fuerst.
He is survived by: his wife Esther A. Schroeder; his children, Leonard V. Fuerst of Columbus Grove, Francis "Fritz" Fuerst of Shawnee, Marilyn A. Heyneman (Patrick) of Aurora, CO and Elaine M. Gibson (Joseph) of Bluffton; his siblings, Thomas "Tom" Fuerst, Agnes Parker, Margaret Weber (Bill), Norma Jean Lisota, Mary Fuerst and Irene Biederman; and his siblings-in-law, Stephen Schroeder, Dorothy Fuerst and Margaret Palte. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
