He was predeceased by: his wife Janet L. Schwierling; his parents, John T. Schwierling Sr. and Marie A. Schwierling; and his brother Robert "Bob" Schwierling. He is survived by: his grandchildren, Hana, Jena of Sara, J. T., Jack, Bryce, Dennis, Michael, Thomas, Ross, Maria and Haley.
