He is survived by: his wife Emily Emerson; his children, Jeffrey Smathers (Cheryl) of Norwalk, Kimberly Smathers of Clyde and Laura Johlin (Dan) of Woodville; his sister Cindy Galloway (Keith) of Jefferson; and his half-sister Monica Matthews.
