He was predeceased by: his parents, Harkness L. Montgomery and Hester Montgomery (Cole); his wife Henrietta Rhodes (Gilbert); his stepdaughter Linda Weng; and his siblings, Matt, Ted, Roman, Russell, Esaw, Rousaw, Hager, Ollie, Peachie Rigsby and Faye Hicks.

He is survived by: his stepchildren, John Rhodes (Carolyn) of Clyde, Mitchell Rhodes (Sandra) of Helena, Paul Rhodes (Donna) of Rowlett, Texas and Susie Rhodes of Garland, Texas; his stepgrandchildren, Brian Rhodes (Crystal Lynn), Aaron Rhodes (Sarah), Dawn McCaleb (Robert), Andrew Rhodes, Christopher Rhodes, Joshua Rhodes, Emily Rhodes and Sarah Rhodes; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Andrew Rhodes, Leta Rhodes, Lathon Rhodes and Roger Rhodes.

Memorials may be given to the Sandusky County Humane Society or the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in Sandusky, where Sam always received great care.
