He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Cunningham Mendenhall; his parents, Gladys Mendenhall and Carl Mendenhall; and his brother Charles Edward Mendenhall. He is survived by: his daughter Rita Miguel Mendenhall Caruso; his stepson Richard Cunningham (Joan); his siblings, Mary Jeanne Heineman DeMoss (Griff), John (Bonnie), Carme Lou Hannon and Margaret "Peg" Edwards; and his grandchildren, David Caruso (Meg), Maria Caruso-Machala (Joey), Nicole Caruso (David Grindler), Michael (Jenny), Mark Cunningham (Janet) and Patricia Walter (Jason).
