He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Gross and Helen Gross; and his brothers, Larry and Eddie Gross. He is survived by: his wife Martha "Janie"; his children, Cheryl Hottinger (Jeff), David Gross (Lindsey) and Robin Gross (B. J. Hamilton); his grandchildren, Katie Hottinger, DJ and Ashley Gross; and his siblings, Donald Gross, Jerry Gross (Glenda), Dwayne Gross (Rhonda), Betty Rice (Carlos), Patricia McComas and Deborah Heddings.
