He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Henry R. Herrnstein and Wilhelmine Cartmille Herrnstein; his wife Fay; his brother Philip; his sister-in-law Dorothea Herrnstein of Clarksburg; his nephew Carl Herrnstein (Abby); his great-nieces, Isabella and Carlee; his great-nephew Samuel; his brother-in-law Ned Pendleton (Joan); and his nephew Ross. He was also cherished by several cousins and many dear life-long friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to any of the following charities: Brown's Chapel Church, Deerfield Township Fire and Rescue, Clarksburg Alumni Scholarship Fund, or the Ross County Historical Society.
