He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse JoAnn "Janet"; his children, Mary Rose "Rosie" Bernard (Jim), Margie Schmitz (Ron Shaw), Karl Schmitz (Julie) and Betty Hancock; his grandchildren, Katie Bernard, Laura Schmitz and Alex Hancock; and his siblings, Alice, Joseph, Annie, Allen, Anthony, William, Mary Margaret, Robert and Paul. He was also cherished by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
