He was predeceased by: his wife Judith McDowell Wantz; his sister Judith Wantz Hanson; his half-brother Ronald Wantz; his brother Raymond Wantz; and his half-brother Robert Wantz.

He is survived by: his children, Wendy Schultz (Brett) of Burton, Shannon Lyle (Dan) of Knoxville, TN and Brook Mast (Grant) of Knoxville, TN.; and his sisters, Katherine Wantz Rohler, Linda Wantz Mathoslah, Carol Wantz Seashols and Mary Wantz Miller.
