He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin W. Steele and Ercell Hensley (Sharon); his brothers, Daniel Steele and Terry Lee Steele; and his nephew Danny Steele.

He is survived by: his children, Dawn Marie Johnston and Jerry Steele (Jessica Sedlock); his grandchildren, Zachary Dunn (Brooke), Vanessa Johnston and Justin Johnston; and his brother Donald Steele (Lydia).
