He was predeceased by: his son Alan John; his sister Rosemary McDowell; and his parents, Robert Gurd and Eveline Gurd. He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his children, Andy (Kim), David (Marcy), Jennifer and Colin; his grandchildren, Carolyn, Catherine, Sean, Benjamin and Molly; his sister Edna Maxwell; and his grandson Patrick (Gray).
