He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Mathews and Leola Mathews (Spicer); his former wife Katherine Mathews (Tillis); his brother William Mathews; and his wife Judith Mathews (Greene).
He is survived by: his daughter Sherri Grubb (Timothy); his grandchildren, Timothy, Sarah and Nicholas; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Mathews (Peters) and Sandra Tillis (Sparrow).
