He was predeceased by: his former wife Vida; his wife Peggy; his son Brian; and his brother Donald. He is survived by: his son Michael Karr (Jessica); his stepdaughter Shawna McCafferty (David Riggs); his stepgrandchildren, Jason Smith, Jr. (Shelby), Ciera Smith (Brandon Davis), Cheyenne McCafferty (Jason Hughes) and Halle Williams (Spencer Van Fleet); and his great grandchildren, Ally, Jace, Journee, Brandon Jr., Jason III, Cianna and Donavan.
