She was predeceased by: her parents, William Edward Knecht and Eva Knecht (Anderson); her husband Ronald E. Smith; and her siblings, Vernon Knecht, Evelyn Brieter and Vera Christopherson.
She is survived by: her children, Joan Ege (Duane) of Grand Marais, Damaris Schepmann (Ron) of Holyrood, Kristy Crump (Gordon) of Winston Salem and David R. Smith (Kim) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; and her sister Audriane Giles of Kansas City. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren.
