He was predeceased by: his parents, George Olmstead and Ellen Jones Olmstead of Virginia; and his siblings, Claudia, Starr and Gordon.

He is survived by: his wife Mary K. Gardner Olmstead; his sons, Christopher and Roderick Olmstead; his stepchildren, Teala Swanson and Bryan DeOss; and his siblings, Sammy Olmstead, Joy Olmstead, Sherry West and Nathan Olmstead. He is also survived by grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
