He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Merkel and Mary Katherine Boyd Merkel. He is survived by: his wife Velma Hennis Merkel; his son Jeffery Merkel; his great grandchild Brooke; his sons, Tim Merkel (Pam) of Cadiz and Curt Merkel (Carleen) of Vermillion; and his sister Roberta of Hawaii. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.
