He is survived by: his wife Donna Eckenrode Bates; his children, Darla Bates of Vienna and Larry Bates of Brookfield; his granddaughters, Heather Rodgers, Kamila McQuaid, Shaney Bates and Brianna McMahon (Connor); and his brother Duane Bates (Lori) of Augusta.
