He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Vernon D. Place and Lydia J. Place (Casperson); his wife Virginia E. Richardson; his children, Darla R. Mertz (Ralph) of Columbus, OH, Marla K. Sawmiller (Mike) of Spencerville, OH and Kent R. Place (Shirley); his grandchildren, Ralph V. Mertz, III (Marie), Nathan G. Mertz (Beth), Steven M. Sawmiller (Jen), Jeremy G. Sawmiller (Lindsay), Heather L. Pohlman (Nate), Kyle E. Sawmiller, Jessica L. Counotte, Amber N. Simpkins (Dale), Danielle E. Smith (Ben), Zachariah R. Place, Kristen T. Newell, Lindsay K. Place, Erin J. Place, Jacob C. Place and Mikayla R. Place; his siblings-in-law, Betty Place and Vernie Richardson; his granddaughter Dena R. Sawmiller; and his brother Oliver. He was also cherished by 22 great grandchildren, 3 brothers.
