He is survived by: his wife Eileen Schmelzer (Nash); his children, Stephen Schmelzer (Susan), Lisa Spires (Jeffrey) and Judy Wohrer (Ian); his grandchildren, Joe Spires (Aunnie), Luke Schmelzer (Abby), Matthew Spires (Erin), Danielle Kilbarger (Chad), Jeremiah Spires, Leah Schmelzer (Jerry), Blake and Megan Wohrer; his great grandchildren, Nick, Miley Schmelzer, Reese, Braelyn Spires, Allison Spires, Noah, Grace Kilbarger and Skylar Bellville; his siblings, John (Eleanor), James Schmelzer (Barbara) and Veronica Hammond (Bob); and his sister-in-law Teresa Schmelzer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
