He was predeceased by: his parents, Roger Powell and Helen Powell (Seger); his wife Mary Whitney; and his siblings, Donald, David, Nelson, Roger Powell, Nancy Powell and Patty Yencer.

He is survived by: his children, Janice Kistler of Champion, Mary Beth Snodgrass, Joyce Fleischer of Niles and Tim Powell of Warren; his siblings, Richard "Dick" Powell (Bernice) of Newton Falls and Jeanne Wright of Tustin, CA; his grandsons, Clinton, Ryan Kistler, Mark, Adam and Steven Wolford; and his great grandchildren, Addie, Jonathan Kistler, Quinn and Ellie Kistler.
