He was predeceased by: his son Daniel "Dan" Bissland; and his parents, James Hope Bissland Jr. and Elsie Christie Bissland. He is survived by: his wife Joan Bemis Bissland; his children, Sarah Breithaupt (Frank) of Naperville, IL, Betsy Hope of Hamilton, OH and Andrew (Linda Keyes) of Castle Rock, CO.; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan Breithaupt, Wesley and Emily Dockery.
