He was predeceased by: his parents, George Pickering and Alta Mae Pickering (Taylor); his granddaughter Stephanie Sanders; and his siblings, Pearl Browne, Ruth Dillinger, Iva Mae Sworden, Clara Post, June Curry, Arnold Pickering and Robert Pickering.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela Sanders (Tom) of Bowling Green and Steven Pickering (Shelley) of La Center; his wife Phyllis Pickering (DuBois); his son David Pickering (Tracy) of Simpsonville; and his grandsons, Shad Sanders and Patrick Pickering.
