He was predeceased by: his parents, Reno Oberly and Bertha Oberly (Hochstettler); his wife Carolyn Matter Oberly; his son Daniel Oberly; and his siblings, James Oberly, Dorothy Porter, Bernice Reichenbach and Marjorie Davis.
He is survived by: his children, Barbara Schmitz (Dean) of New Albany, David Oberly of Ottawa Lake, Beverly Shepler (Eddie) of Bluffton and Doug Oberly (Julie) of Bluffton; his grandchildren, Brandt Schmitz, Tamara Moshofsky (Adam), Nick Shepler (Onalee), Melissa Hauenstein (Shanon), Tyler Oberly (Erin), Lane Oberly (Jessica) and Kaleigh Howard (Alex); and his sister Marilyn Schirch of Bluffton. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ or the American Legion Post #382.
