He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Lauer and Velma Augenstein Lauer; his wife Phyllis Lauer; his close friend Margaret Eddleblute; his granddaughter Kelsey Lauer; and his siblings, Lloyd Lauer, Imogene Chandler and Martha Tyson.
He is survived by: his children, Cindy Campbell (Gene), R. C. Lauer (Teresa), Cheri McKown (Bill) and Chila Jones. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
