In loving memory of Derrick A. Aleksin of Berea, Ohio, who departed this world on June 27, 2024 at the age of 62. Derrick leaves behind a legacy remembered by family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Derrick A. Aleksin to pay them a last tribute.
In the soft embrace of remembrance, we recall the profound impact Derrick had on those he encountered along his journey. Derrick was born in Lorain, Ohio on December 27, 1961, the 4th of 5 children. The 3 older Aleksin Children looked upon Derrick as a huge Christmas gift, being born 2 days after Christmas. Derrick loved his large Family and many relatives, his job, his fellow workers, his friends, his sports cars, his motorized planes and helicopters. There was nothing Derrick could not fix or repair, as since he was a child, he would take everything apart and put it back together from sight alone. He spent his early years in Parkview Village, Ohio, growing up near the Cleveland Metroparks, which was like a second backyard to him and all his siblings and friends. Being close to Cleveland-Hopkins Airport, he loved watching the plane's flight paths over his home. At St. Angela Merici School and Church in Fairview Park, Ohio, he enjoyed his Catholic Education along with playing Football, Hockey and Golf. He attended both St. Edward's Catholic High School in Lakewood, Ohio and Fairview High School in Fairview Park, Ohio, graduating from Fairview High School in 1980, going on to becoming a Teacher in Electronics and then an Electrical Engineer for Aclara Technologies in Solon, Ohio. He spent many summer days golfing with his Dad, Brothers and Brother-In-Law Lee Martinsen at all the local golf courses and in the Metroparks. Derrick resided in Fairview Park, Ohio until 2016, at which time he moved to his final home in Berea, Ohio.
He is survived by : his siblings, Susan Martinsen (Lee), Nancy, Gordon and Thomas (Donna); Nephew Scott (Susan's Son) and his close friend Jim Schettine. He was preceded in death by his Father, Thomas Aleksin and Mother Joan Ogle Aleksin.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The American Cancer Society.
