He was predeceased by: his parents, Linus Schmerge and Irene Schmerge (Soder); his wife Betty L. Wynegar; and his siblings, Doris Vaubel, Charlene Gaier and Ronald Schmerge.
He is survived by: his children, Terri Schneider (Terry) of Bellefontaine and Tim Schmerge (Rhonda) of Lewistown; his grandchildren, Gina Schneider, James Schneider (Amanda) and Hannah Brown (Jesse); his great grandchildren, Kennedy Schneider and Amelia Brown; and his sisters, Donna Egbert (Ronald) of Botkins and Mary Jane Sollomann (Gary) of Anna. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
