He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cordell and Rose Cordell (Stetler); and his sister Wanita M. Cordell. He is survived by: his stepmother Anietta Cordell of Bellefontaine; and his siblings, James Jr. of Tennessee, Dwayne of Tennessee, Robert of Tennessee, Patrick of Bellefontaine, Diana Rhoten of Tennessee, Donna Cordell of Tennessee, Zoe Ann Kennedy of Tennessee and Charity L. Cordell of Bellefontaine. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
