He was predeceased by: his father Charles G. McGhee; and his brothers, George, John and Robert "Bobby" McGhee. He is survived by: his children, Tylar McGhee of Wheeling and Charles "CJ" Edward McGhee Jr.; his grandchild Rae'Lynn Aldridge; his siblings, Percy McGhee (Melanie) of Bellaire, Curtis C. McGhee (Shelia) of Bridgeport, Pauline Foster (Donald) of Wheeling, Pearl Foston of Bridgeport, Oralin Pearson of Wheeling and Alice HIll (Eligha) of McMechen, WV; and his nephews, Shane McGhee of Bellaire and Eligha Hill (Turk) of Columbus. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
