He was predeceased by: his mother Maggie Benton; his wife Estella Benton; his son Maurice Benton; his father Reverend James Benton Sr.; and his sisters, Julia Harrison, Ruby Grandberry (Charles Grandberry), Dorothy Franklin and Rosetta Benton Jackson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Angela Benton Freeman (Eugene), Maria Benton Black (Johnny), Karen Black, Rosalind Dancy and Eugenia Simms (Carlos); his sister Dr. Cynthia Rand-Johnson; his niece Cassandra G. Gibson; his grandchildren, Corey Benton, Rodney Randolph Jr. (Safiya), Ryan Randolph, Ariel Benton Wells, Aesha Randolph, Rashad Randolph, Rhyse Randolph (Tremekia), Alysha Randolph and Ronald Little Jr.; and his godchildren, Lamika Thompson Akins and Courtney Thompson of Aryonn King.
