He was predeceased by: his parent L. D. Newsom; and his children, Mae and Carl. He is survived by: his children, Harvey, Izola, Joyce, Billy, Dwight (Linda), Dwane (Candace), Tammy (Allen) and Darrell (Kelli); his grandchildren, Phillip, Iman, D'Nair, Justin, Darrell Jr. and Quincy; his siblings, Izola Brown, Joyce Thompson (John) and Billy Newsom (Diane); his siblings-in-law, Robert Robinson (Pamela), Darnell (Deborah), Marilyn Nash, Dorothy Williams (Jimmy), Loretta Warren (Ellis) and Kathy Robinson; and his goddaughter Joanne Qunnie.
