He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Bates and Matty Bates (Locke); and his siblings, Herbert Michael Bates, Larry Bates and Jackie Carpenter.
He is survived by: his wife Vickie; his children, Aaron Bates (Jenny), Zach Bates, Adina Young (Tracy), Shannon Kennedy (Jeff), Travis Bates and Ryan Bates; his grandchildren, Gage, Chase, Allie, Cade, Brooke, Gabe and Sophia; his sisters, Karen Stewart, Pam Bates and Margo Anderson (Sam); and his brother-in-law Fred Carpenter. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the FOP, New City Lodge No. 48, Fairborn.
