He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy E. Smith and Ralph A. Smith; and his sister Janit M. Layne. He is survived by: his wife Kathy Smith; his children, Amanda Smith, Adam Smith (Chloe) and Ashley Karlen (Adam); his granddaughters, Destiny, Cora and Liza; and his siblings, Carol Blose (Tom), Garry Smith (Shelly) and Bob Smith. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
