He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, George Backinger (Snooks) and Jane Backinger; his former wife Nancy Fox; his wife Marie Carey Courtney; his children, Sandra Backinger (Clarke McKenna), Cathy Backinger, Gail Ross (Philip), Robert Backinger and Carol Backinger Gaouette; his stepchildren, Kelly Werley (Bradley) and William Courtney (Julliette); his grandchildren, Kevin, Collin Corbin, Natalie Emberger (Carl), Valerie Parris (Brett), Derek Corbin, Alexandra Lee, Mitchell Allen Esser, Terra, Calen Backinger, Carey, Brendon Werley, Christina and Will Courtney; his great grandchildren, Khalil, Rosie Parris, Carter and Ezra Emberger; his sister Jane Lodie; and his stepson Timothy Carey Courtney.
