It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Charles Bates of Attica, Ohio, who passed away on February 1, 2021, at the age of 69, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Mac Bates and Mary Lou Bates Chilcote (Fish); and his stepfather R. Barton Chilcote. He is survived by: his wife Mary Roxanne "Roxie" Bates (Seasly); his daughter Emily Bates (Chris Morgan); his sisters, Lucy Spencer (James) and Kathleen Miller (Melvin); his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Butts and Sandra Swartzmiller (Dan); and his mother-in-law Agnes Seasly.

Memorial contributions in his honor may be gifted to any local organization of the donor's choice.

“Charlie always saw the humor in things. From our senior class play to our fiftieth reunion, he always brought out a smile. His portrayal of a cop in the class play not only stole the show; he reprised the role in real life. He also had an amazing command of local history. I always looked forward to spending time with the Master whenever I came home on leave from the Air Force. We'd cut up about everything. Yet Charlie was always humble. We've lost a true treasure.
