He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Yates and Hazel Mingus Yates; his daughter Karen Buckley; his son-in-law Kevin Brown; and his granddaughter-in-law Angie Buckley.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Poffenbarger Grigsby Yates; his daughters, Regina Thomas (Jeff Knight) of Chauncey and Frana Yates of The Plains; his stepdaughter Holly Sufronko (Steve) of The Plains; his son-in-law Chuck Buckley of The Plains; and his grandchildren, Richard Thomas III (Missy), Derek Buckley (Val), Ryan Buckley (Amanda), Trace Buckley, Sean Buckley, Tyler Yates and Courtney Brown (Daniel Felter). He is also survived by nine great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 1st 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Jagers & Sons Funeral Home (24 Morris Ave, Athens, OH 45701). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 2nd 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
He had been battling Parkinson's Disease and heart problems and was a fighter to the end.
