He is survived by: his wife Sandra (Hull); his daughters, Kara Long (Laura Taylor) of Coos Bay and Kori Southers (Ryan) of Ashley, Ohio; his granddaughter Evelyn Mary Southers of Ashley, Ohio; his brother-in-law Robert Hull of Marion; and his cousin Reverend Terry Thompson. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends.

“I'm the owner of the Dan's Deli trailer in Ashley. I would see Don walking up and down the sidewalk along High Street every morning in Ashley with his walking stick in one hand, and a grocery bag in the other that he used to collect trash he'd find along his route. He would always shout out a good morning to me with a friendly wave of his hand as he passed by. Often he would stop and we'd chat for a good while. He was a dear friend, and I will miss him greatly. I am blessed to have known him.”
