He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth M. Strickling; and his siblings, Howard and Judy Heitzman. He is survived by: his daughters, Melinda Stanford (Chris) of Ashland, Christine Hootman of Ashland and Jennifer Knowlton of Ashland; his grandchildren, Niles Hootman, Sierra Knowlton (Joshua Knight), Kamrin Knowlton Goings (Bailey Jones) and Dakota Knowlton-Buckner; and his great grandchildren, Ava Heintz and Ella Knight.
