He is survived by: his children, Veronica Hershiser (Ryan), Judd Mateo (Cassie), Topanga Nagel, John Cruz (Ren) and Joey Cruz; the mother of his children Jennifer Mateo; his siblings, Ray Mateo, Peter Mateo (Jocelyn), Joseph Mateo, Frank Mateo (Andrea), Catherine Mateo, Allan Mateo, Francis Mateo, Nick Mateo and Jesse Mateo; and his grandchildren, Zander and Rylan Mateo. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
