He is survived by: his former wife Nancy R. Gates (Hughes); his wife Sandra M. Gates (Johns); his children, Linda Ross, John Gates, Jr. and Danny Joe Gates; his stepchildren, Charles Miller, II (Heidi), Jennifer Wright (Clint), Craig Miller (Renee), Jennelle Wright (Lucas), Chad Miller (Mindy), Christopher Miller (Jessica), Jeanette Zimmerman, Michael Hahn (Erika) and Sheila Hahn (Joe Kelley); his stepdaughter-in-law Casey Miller; and his siblings, Robert Gates (Genene) of Harbour Springs, FL, Rose Clark of Sidney, OH, Raymond Gates (Maxine) of Sidney, OH and May Hughes of Sidney, OH. He is also survived by 35 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
