He was predeceased by: his father Urho Nurkka; and his sister Liisa A. Nurkka-Kalinowski. He is survived by: his mother Hellevi Nurkka (Pakakangas) of South Carolina; his son Jacob Nurkka (Madison Hunchuck); his brother-in-law Richard Kalinowski; his nephew Hannu Roivas; and also Lisa Distelrath.
