He was predeceased by: his sons, Todd A. VanWinkle and Richard VanWinkle; his siblings, James, Earl, Paul, Charles, Hazel Simmons and Virginia Watkin; and his parents, James Thomas and Myrtle Francis VanWinkle.

He is survived by: his wife Sue Mae VanWinkle; his daughter Latonia (Curt Miller); and his grandchildren, Carise, Nathan, Brianna, Brandon, Chelsea, Tristen, Aden, Summer and Jayden.
